Functions of HSS Step Drill

Due to the feature of multiple diameters of the step drill, you can drill holes of different sizes by carrying just one step drill bit, or two if larger holes are needed, rather than several twist drills. Usage of HSS Step Drill
 

Cutting Holes in Thin Metal:
Step drill bits excel at drilling precise holes through thin metal sheets. Their straight flute design prevents the material from twisting out of shape during drilling, resulting in clean and accurate holes. With each step typically 1/4" in size, these bits are effective for metal sheets up to 1/4" thick. Additionally, flipping the metal sheet and drilling from the opposite side can effectively double the thickness that can be cut through.

 

Cutting Holes in Plastic Sheets:
They can also be used for cutting holes through plastic sheets. This process does not require lubricating oil thus creating clear clean holes without causing any cracks and damage.
